The Allentown Converting Company began as the National Silk Dyeing Company in 1909. Seen in this aerial view is the Lehigh Canal at today's Canal Park. The Allentown Terminal Railroad crosses over lock 40, known as the "dye house lock", as it rejoins the Central Railroad of New Jersey tracks just outside the big Central Railroad yard. This plant was still dyeing and finishing textiles until the late 1970s. The former dye house is now occupied by HAB Industries, a large textile-finishing company. |
